Turbomanifold FAQ

FAQTurbokrummerThe heart of the conversion to turbo operation is the turbo manifold.

In contrast to a non-turbocharged vehicle, the turbo exhaust manifold does not direct the exhaust gases from the engine into the exhaust system, but into the turbocharger mounted on the manifold, which drives it.

Casting manifold

FAQTurbokrummer_02The material used is mainly (as in most of our manifolds) alloyed cast iron, which can withstand the high temperatures of exhaust gases (over 900°C). If there is no suitable cast iron manifold for your vehicle, a stainless steel manifold can be manufactured alternatively. However, built manifolds are usually more expensive than cast manifolds, which can be explained by the high price of stainless steel and the working time.

Stainless steel manifold

FAQTurbokrummer_03In the case of do-it-yourself manifolds, stress-relief annealing should be carried out in any case. There, the stainless steel manifold, mounted on a mold, is heated and cooled 13 times to remove any tension from the material.

These stresses are usually so great that they could destroy a manifold that has not been stress-relief annealed in the assembled state, resulting in expensive repairs.

In addition to the difference between cast iron and stainless steel manifolds, there is also the difference between ram manifolds and surge-charge manifolds. In supercharging, the pressure of the exhaust gases, which meet and accumulate simultaneously at the manifold outlet, is used as a source of energy for the supercharger. Shock charging, on the other hand, makes use of the kinetic energy of the exhaust gases.

FAQTurbokrummer_04

A good manifold, whether in terms of durability or workmanship, is therefore extremely crucial and necessary for a turbo conversion.

We manufacture manifolds for dealers and tradesmen on request, gladly made to measure, starting from a quantity of 50 manifolds.

If we manufacture a manifold or you receive the raw material from us, the manifold consists of a manifold flange plate at least 8-14mm thick and stainless steel pipes and elbows made of 2mm thick stainless steel from German production and cannot be compared with cheap "China" stainless steel manifolds.

If you can't find a manifold for your vehicle, we will be happy to supply you with our lasered exhaust manifold and turbocharger flange plates (depending on space conditions, a bi-turbo variant is also possible). The manifold must then be adapted in conjunction with the turbocharger, stapled and then welded. Afterwards, we recommend that the manifold be handed over to a stainless steel hardening shop to allow it to glow without tension.

If you want to produce a manifold yourself, you will find stainless steel materials for the production of your turbo manifold in our store.
