The air filter (eng: Airbox) is a box in the engine compartment, which is responsible for calming the intake air. This collects the air flow from the wind and passes it compressed and cleaned through an air filter to the engine, which then uses this air for fuel combustion.
There are different types of filters.
HG Motorsport distributes oily and oil-free Pipercross filters.
The difference between the two filters is mainly in the cleaning interval.
Oil-free filters are used in vehicles with air mass meter, otherwise it is wetted with an oil film, which can accelerate the wear.
The leaning intervals are recommended to ensure maximum air flow rates.
-> Non-oiled (dry) filter after approx. 10,000km / year, at the latest after the pollen season (end of May)
-> Oiled filter after approx. 15,000km / year, at the latest after the pollen season (end of May)
RESPONSE WITH AIR FILTERS
The response corresponds to a time course when and how power is available. When it comes to the power delivery of e.g. engine or turbocharger you´ll will have heard about that. The better the response, the sooner and faster the component performance is available.
The turbocharger describes the acceleration behavior of the charger. The better the response, the sooner and faster the charge pressure develops. In most cases, smaller turbochargers have a better response compared to large turbochargers because less exhaust gas or force is needed to set the compressor wheel or exhaust wheel in rotation.
An optimization of the response can be achieved by targeted improvement of the periphery. These include an intake system including air filter, turbo outlet, pressure path, intercooler or a downpipe.
INTAKE PIPE
In the air intake area, an intake pipe is a pipe which supplies and dissipates air. The original plastic intake pipe will become brittle and gets cracks, the longer you use them. The using of our Aluminium- Intake pipe in combination with multi-layered and strong silicone from SF-hoses, you can avoid this problem easily. Better response from the engine and optimized flow behaviour of the inhaled air, also an optical improvement are other benefits of this HF-Series product.
INTAKE SYSTEMS
The intake system is the fresh air from the air filter to the turbocharger or to the throttle plate. Most car manufactures doesn´t produce this component to get more performance. The reasons for that could be mass production, compatibility with many cars and the optimizing of the noise and comfort. For the original power the intake system is mostly enough. But for a sporty intake noise, though getting reserves in performance enhancing, an intake system should be optimized. Our brand HF-Series offers a bigger spectrum of air intakes for many cars, which are optimized in flow, cooling, sound and optic.
AIR MASS METER
An air mass meter, short AMM, is a sensor that determines the air mass, which is to flow through. It is mounted on the intake manifold, which goes off the air filter. The data obtained by an AMM through temperature, humidity and air flow are an important basis for fuel injection.
